Beathouse

Collective Performance, Charleroi, 2011



Collective performance with the inhabitants of a big social housing complex in Charleroi, a post industrial city in Belgium. The artist asked the residents to have their heartbeats recorded with an ultrasound scanning and to collectively play the record of their own heartbeat from their home stereo system with open windows for 20 minutes to create a house of human noise. The sucking and pulsating sound gave an unfamiliar and intimate insight into the human organism and created the impression of a mysterious machinery.
